How a self-cleaning litter box actually works

After your cat leaves, the globe waits, then rotates. Patented sifting separates clumps from clean litter and drops waste into a sealed drawer with a carbon filter. Laser and weight sensors know when a cat is inside, so the cycle never starts with someone in the globe. The Whisker app shows litter level, drawer level and each cat's weight.

        How long does shipping take?

        Will my cat actually use a Litter-Robot?

        Whisker reports that over 95% of cats acclimate, most within a few days to a week. Place it where the old box was, keep both for a short time, mix a cup of used litter into the clean litter, and leave the unit off until your cat has tried it. The cycle waits minutes after your cat leaves and can be delayed up to 30 minutes for skittish cats.

        Which litter should I use?

        A standard-weight clumping clay litter works best. Some silica crystal litters pass the screen, but translucent or white crystal litter can confuse the litter-level and drawer-full sensors on Litter-Robot 4 and is not recommended. Plant-based litters usually do not sift properly.

        Is it safe for kittens?

        Kittens from 3 lb can use Litter-Robot 4 in automatic mode — laser and weight sensors stop the cycle whenever a cat is inside. Under 3 lb, run it in semi-automatic mode (powered off until the kitten has used it, then cycle manually).

        How often do I empty the drawer and change filters?

        With one cat, the Litter-Robot 4 drawer goes about 8 days between emptying (Litter-Robot 5: up to 10, EVO: up to 7). Swap the carbon filter monthly and OdorTrap packs every two weeks; liners make emptying a drawstring pull.

        Does the LitterHopper fit every Litter-Robot?

        No — the LitterHopper in our bundle fits Litter-Robot 4 only (it ships with the new bonnet it needs). Litter-Robot 5, 5 Pro and EVO are not compatible.

        Do I need the Whisker+ membership?

        No. The Whisker app is free and shows real-time litter and drawer levels, cat weight and 7 days of history. Whisker+ is an optional paid membership from the manufacturer that extends history to two years; some Litter-Robot 5 Pro camera features also require it.
